- January 18 – The first opera performance in the Swedish language, Thetis et Pelée, performed by Carl Stenborg and Elisabeth Olin in Bollhuset, marks the establishment of the Royal Swedish Opera.[1]
- August – Inauguration of the pleasure gardens Vauxhall (Gotheburg).
