- June 20: first appearance of The Dingbat Family by George Herriman for the precursor of King Features Syndicate, appearing in Hearst newspapers.[1]
- July 26: estimated origin of Krazy Kat by Herriman in the panel edge of The Dingbat Family.[2]

U.S. publications
- February 5: first appearance of Old Doc Yak by Sidney Smith for the Chicago Tribune. Origins in earlier strip Buck Nix for Chicago Evening Journal.
- May 31: first appearance of Doc's Dippy Duck by John Hager for the Seattle Daily Times, appearing on the front page. Not formally named until February 10, 1915.[3][4]
- December 4: first appearance of Polly and Her Pals by Cliff Sterrett for the New York Journal.[5][6]
