2nd Fighter Wing (France)
The 2nd Fighter Wing (French: 2e Escadre de chasse) is a fighter wing (military aviation unit) of the French Air Force.
After the dissolution of the 2e regiment d'aviation de chasse (2è RAC) in September 1933, SPA 3 and SPA 103 became the first and third squadrons of the 1er groupe de la 2ème escadre de chasse in the course of creation at Tours.[1] EC 2 was set up at Chartres at the end of 1936. Dotée en début 1937 de Dewoitine D.500, the wing was reequipped sur Morane Saulnier M.S.406 (MS 406) in April 1939.
Reformed in November 1945 at Friedrichshafen. It was dissolved on 9 September 1994 at Dijon. La 2e Escadre is reformed on 3 September 2015 at Luxeuil Air Base.[2]
Within the wing is the Escadron de Chasse 01-002 "Cigognes" (01/002 Fighter Squadron), heirs to the fighting tradition of the Groupe de Combat 12 and No. 329 Squadron RAF during the Second World War.
