Background and release

On September 12, 2016, it was announced by f(x)'s official Japanese website that the group would be releasing a new single album titled 4 Walls / COWBOY, to be released on November 2.^[1] It was also confirmed that the single would be available in a CD only version and a CD+DVD version. On September 20, the covers for each version were revealed.^[2]
