ANT Software Limited
ANT Software Limited is an embedded software and services provider to the TV industry. Its software is used in set-top boxes and connected TVs to deliver interactive TV services in homes worldwide. ANT’s global headquarters are in Cambridge, England with a regional office in Seoul, Korea.
History
ANT Software was founded in 1993 by current CTO David Fell, Martin Coulson, Alex van Someren and Nicko van Someren.[1] In 1997 Simon Woodward joined the organisation as CEO and worked with David Fell to focus the business exclusively on the TV market.[2] Alex van Someren and Nicko van Someren went on to set up hardware-based encryption specialist nCipher.[3]
In February 2013, ANT Software Limited was purchased by Espial Group Inc[4]
Product
The ANT Fresco browser by the ANT Galio Client, a TV middleware engine in 2006 and Core TV Applications in 2008.[5] In 2011 ANT launched ANT Galio Move, a companion device application for streaming live and recorded TV content to tablets and smartphones in the home.[6] In March 2009, the company announced that it had deployed 10 million units of its software.[7]
Industry Bodies
ANT is a founder and Steering Group member, represented by CTO David Fell, of the HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV) consortium along with EBU, France Televisions, Institut für Rundfunktechnik, OpenTV, Philips, Samsung, SES ASTRA, Sony and TF1. HbbTV is a pan-European initiative to harmonise broadcast and broadband delivery through connected TV’s and set-top boxes. ANT’s Marketing Communications Manager, Ben Lawrence is Acting Chair of the HbbTV Marketing Working Group.[8]
ANT is a member of the Digital Video Broadcasting Project (DVB) and the Digital TV Group (DTG), it also contributes to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
