Adam Schumann Ravenelle (born October 5, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization. He played college baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores, where he was a member of the 2014 College World Series champions.
Career
Ravenelle attended Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in Sudbury, Massachusetts, where he played for the school's baseball team.[1] With Ravenelle, Lincoln-Sudbury won three consecutive league championships, and the Division I state championship in his senior year.[2] As a senior, The Boston Globe named him their Division I Player of the Year.[3] The New York Yankees selected him in the 44th round, with the 1,349th overall selection of the 2011 MLB draft.[4] He opted not to sign with the Yankees, instead enrolling at Vanderbilt University, so that he could play college baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores.[2][3]
In 2014, his junior year, Ravenelle pitched to a 1.35 earned run average in 40 innings for the Commodores.[5] Ravenelle recorded the save in the deciding game of the 2014 College World Series.[1][6]
The Detroit Tigers drafted Ravenelle in the fourth round, 130th overall, in the 2014 MLB draft.[2][5] He reported to the Gulf Coast League Tigers, before he was transferred to the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps.[7][8] In 2015, he pitched 21 games in relief between the Gulf Coast Tigers and West Michigan Whitecaps, striking out 41 batters over 38 1⁄3 innings while posting a 3.52 ERA. Following the 2015 season, Ravenelle went on to play for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League. Ravenelle was named to the Arizona Fall League's Fall Stars Game.[9]
Ravenelle spent 2016 with both the Lakeland Flying Tigers and the Erie SeaWolves, posting a combined 3.88 ERA in 58 innings pitched between both teams.[10] After the season, Ravenelle returned to the AZL where he played for the Salt River Rafters.
