Muntean and Rosenblum
Muntean and Rosenblum (Markus Muntean; born 1962 in Graz, Austria and Adi Rosenblum; born 1962 in Haifa, Israel) are artists based in Vienna and London. They have been collaborating since 1992.
They work in a variety of media, but their most characteristic work involves painted formal compositions, with comic book style captions, of teenage models from fashion magazines. The Guardian critic Jonathan Jones described the effect as "Andy Warhol meets Jacques-Louis David".[1]
They have shown work internationally in many exhibitions including a solo show at the Essl Foundation in Vienna, 2008, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, León, Spain in 2006, the 2001 Berlin Biennale, “The Triumph of Painting” at the Saatchi Gallery in London, the 2004 São Paulo Biennale, De Appel in 2002, “Melodrama” at MARCO in Vigo and “Fantasies and Curiosities” at the Miami Art Museum. They are represented by the Maureen Paley gallery in London, Team Gallery in New York, Jack Hanley Gallery in San Francisco, Galerie Zink in Berlin and Sommer Contemporary Art in Tel-Aviv.
