Akil Ammar is an MC and urban poet born in Mexico City. With twenty years of experience within the Hip Hop culture and five studio albums support it. Melody and mixed with everyday, sincere and conscientious lyrics Akil's message has turned him into one of the most important Latin American artist.[1]

Biography

Jonathan Rojas,(born 2 October 1978), better known by his stage name Akil Ammar (His stage name comes from two Arabic words: 'Akil which means "one who uses reason' and 'Ammar which means "builder"), is a rapper, from Mexico City, Mexico and raised in the Obrera, comes from a very small family, he is an only child and was raised by two women: his mother and grandmother. Akil Ammar began his musical career in the mid-1990s with the groups Lifestyle (1996-1998). As a solo artist since 2003 with five studio albums, Akil Ammar is certainly an important reference to Mexican Hip Hop, who despite having a style away from the commercial, has managed to remain and position itself as one of the best MCs in the country[2]

He has toured throughout Mexico, plus festivals in Havana, Berlin, Puerto Rico, Guatemala and in 10 major US cities. Asphalt Co-founder in 2012, has been part of the international mass events production and distribution of independent music genre worldwide. It has contributed themes: "Barrio 19" (MTV),[3] "Guardian Angel" (Canal Once), and several films including "Charting Aleida". Chilango-winner FMX Music Award in 2010 and nominated for Best Album Rap / Hip Hop in Indie O Music Awards 2010.[4]

Musical work

In its stage alone publishes a EP "Reflexion" in 2002. Dominated musical genres such as Salsa, Reggae, Funk, Jazz and Latin rhythms are part of that Akil Ammar Samples used in their productions. In 2006 the third solo material was released, in this material confirms and vindicates social issues covering topics such as life in the neighborhoods, streets, oppression system and political prisoners. The primertrack of this material is a sample of a fragment of Subcomandante Marcos speech which refers to the movement of the Other Campaign. One of the most important contents of the disc is a recording made from the cell where he awaited his execution, one of the most important current US political activists: Mumia Abu-Jamal.

On May 30, 2009 he released his fourth material to the streets, entitled "Requiem" and composed of 21 tracks and a hidden one. In this material there were a variety of contributions from various countries such as Spain, Cuba and Mexico and from artists such as Aniki, Velcro, Iza, Lom-C, Obsession, Haze, Karty Er Nene, Rapsusklei, and Dr. Myal. He began to present this latest CD on May 30, 2009 and will tour almost all Mexico and parts of E.U.A

In 2012 the fifth material was published, which contains hit songs like "Te Extraño"[6] dedicated to his father, "Voces de la calle", "Revolucion", "20 de Junio del 2008", dedicated to those killed in the disco New's Divine of Mexico City, and " she "big three stories of women. Asfalto Inc

Asfalto comprises brand clothing, music label and a small production. Composed by a team of five or six people who take care of liven up each item.
