The Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) is the fire department for the county of Alameda and is responsible for servicing an area 508 square miles (1,320 km2) in size.[2]
History
The ACFD was founded on July 1, 1993, as a special district with the County’s Board of Supervisors serving as the Fire District’s Board of Directors. This consolidation combined separate departments that had previously serviced the Castro Valley, Eden Landing and the County Fire Patrol.[3] In June 1995, the City of San Leandro chose to combine its fire department into the Alameda County Fire Department in order to receive services through a contractual arrangement with Alameda County. Two years later, in June 1997 the City of Dublin added their department to the growing list of departments under the purview of the ACFD.[3] In 2010, both Newark and Union City also joined the ACFD.[3]
Stations & Equipment
Every station in the county has either a frontline or reserve fire engine. Stations in more rural areas also have either a type 3 engine and/or a patrol (which is usually a type 6 engine). The county also has multiple trucks and at least one quint.[4]
