Alika Joseph Kaleiali'i DeRego (born September 7, 1986) is an American indoor men's volleyball player who won the 2011 USA Volleyball Open National Championship gold medal with Creole Volleyball Club. As a libero, he helped guide his team to the 2007 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championship and a third-place finish at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships. He was a two-time All-Conference team selection, two-time Orange Coast College Scholar-Athlete honoree, OCC Freshman of the Year and finished ranked second all-time in career digs in school history at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA. He has played for Creole Volleyball Club from Brooklyn, New York in the 2011 and 2012 US Open of Volleyball National Championships, helping Creole to the Gold Medal in the Men's Open Division at the 2011 USA Volleyball Open Championships in Dallas, TX, earning all-tournament team honors.

Career

High School

DeRego played volleyball for four years at James B. Castle High School as an Outside Hitter and Setter. He was a Honolulu Star-Bulletin All-State selection and led his team to the Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) Eastern Division Championship in 2002. .[1] He was the 2002 OIA Player of the Year. He's a three-time All-OIA selection.

He participated in the Haili Men's Volleyball Tournamnet Men's B Division as a member of Molten Volleyball Club 18's from Honolulu, Hawaii, playing Outside Hitter in (2004, 2005) helping the team to the 2005 48th Annual Haili Men's Volleyball Tournament (Hilo, Hawaii) Men's B Division Championship, earning all-tournament team honors.

He is a three-time USA Volleyball Boys Junior U18 National Championships participant (2003, 2004, 2005) as a member of Molten Volleyball Club 18's team as an Outside Hitter. In 2003, Molten Volleyball Club 18's won the Silver Medal in the U18 Division, losing in the USA Volleyball Boy's Junior U18 National Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, to Renaissance VBC from St. Louis, Missouri.

Played for Kaneohe Volleyball Club from Kaneohe, Hawaii, Men's B Division team, coached by his high school volleyball coach, Pat Gomes-Woolsey, for five years (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), participating in the Haili Men's Volleyball Tournament, (Hilo, Hawaii) Men's B Division all five years as an Outside Hitter, Setter, Defensive Specialist.

College

DeRego played on the Orange Coast College Men's Volleyball team from 2006 to 2007, as a Libero. In his first year, he was named to the Orange Empire All-Conference team, the only Libero to be named 2006 All-Conference. He was also selected OCC Men's Volleyball Freshman of the Year. He is a 2006 Orange Coast College Scholar-Athlete honoree. In 2006 he helped his team finish runners-up in the Orange Empire Conference and fifth-place in the CCCAA State Championships. His 212 digs was the fifth-highest single-season total in school history. In 2007, he helped guide the Pirates to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championship and a third-place finish at the CCCAA State Championships. He was named to the 2007 Pacific Coast All-Conference team and was honored as a 2007 Orange Coast College Scholar-Athlete. DeRego led and ranked first in the State (CCCAA) with 212 digs and a 3.31 digs per set average (64 games, 212 digs) – 3.31 dpg and ranked first in the Pacific Coast Conference with 173 digs and a 3.84 digs per set average (45 games, 173 digs) – 3.84 dpg. He finished his college career in 2007, placing second all-time in Orange Coast College Men's Volleyball history in career digs and fifth and ninth all-time in single-season digs. DeRego later transferred to California State University, Long Beach.

He graduated from Orange Coast College in 2007 with an AA in Liberal Arts. DeRego then graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a BA in Psychology.

Club

DeRego played for Creole Volleyball Club from Brooklyn, New York during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. DeRego helped guide Creole VBC to the 2011 USA Volleyball Open National Championship Gold Medal, Men's Open (Gold Division) in Dallas, Texas. In 2012 he again helped Creole VBC to a 7th-place finish in the US Open Championships, winning the Men's Open (Silver Division) in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 2015, DeRego played for Kailua Volleyball Club from Kailua, Hawaii, helping the team capture the 2015 58th Annual Haili Men's Volleyball Tournament, Men's Open Championship, in Hilo, Hawaii, earning all-tournament team honors.

Personal

DeRego was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and resides in Kaneohe, Hawaii. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 2011 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
