Alison Gold (born May 9, 2002)[1] is an American pop singer. She is best known for the single "Chinese Food".
Career
Alison Gold was born in Fairfax, Virginia.[1] In 2012, she began working with Patrice Wilson, with whom she has worked on all her songs to date. Her first single, "Skip Rope", was released as part of the musical duo Tweenchronic[2] made up of Alison and another girl identified as "Stacey". She has since released three solo singles: "Chinese Food", "ABCDEFG", and "Shush Up".
The single "Chinese Food" charted at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 2013, and had received over 14 million YouTube views by March 2014.[3]
"Chinese Food" was criticized as having simplistic portrayals of other cultures.[4] The music video for the single "Shush Up" portrayed Gold in a sexualized manner, depicted her as a criminal in jail, and at one point apparently had her being executed in an electric chair. The official copy of the video was later removed from YouTube.[5]
