Andrew McPherson (born April 28, 1979) is a Canadian-German professional ice hockey forward who currently plays for the Fischtown Pinguins of Germany's top-tier DEL. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, selected in the 9th round (261st overall).

He was granted German citizenship in May 2012.[1]

Career

After spending four seasons at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, McPherson joined the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL at the start of the 2002-03 ECHL season. He also split part of his rookie season with Charlotte Checkers and the New Mexico Scorpions of the CHL. McPherson spent his 2003-04 season with the Roanoke Express, where he scored 37 points in 70 games.

On June 4, 2004, McPherson was sent to the Trenton Titans to complete an earlier deal that Roanoke had made earlier in the season in which Shaun Fisher was dealt to Roanoke for future considerations. He would later sign a contract with the Titans on July 9, 2004,[2] but would not play a game with the team and was released on October 20, 2004.[3][4] McPherson later signed with the Port Huron Beacons of the United Hockey League. After one season with the Beacons, McPherson left North America to play for various German clubs, including EV Landsberg, EHC Straubing, SC Riessersee, Hannover Indians and ESV Kaufbeuren. While primarily competing in German minor leagues, he saw action in 53 games of the German elite league Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) in 2007-08, tallying 17 points for EHC Straubing on the season.[5]

McPherson signed a one-year contract with the Fischtown Pinguins on August 3, 2012[6] and had his contract renewed several times. In his first four years, McPherson and the Pinguins competed in the German second-tier DEL2, before being granted a license for Germany's top-flight DEL in 2016.[7]
