Apistogramma viejita is a dwarf cichlid in the subfamily Geophaginae. It is a benthopelagic freshwater fish that lives in the Meta River and the Orinoco River in Colombia. They grow up to 4.6 cm in standard length.[1] The A. viejita you find most often sold in fish stores is not actually A. viejita at all, but instead a separate species, A. macmasteri. If you have purchased your fish from a local fish store, you should first assume it is A. macmasteri and not viejita, and seek help from an expert for identification.
