The 2009 Afghanistan earthquake occurred with a moment magnitude of 5.5 in eastern Afghanistan on 15 April at 01:57 local time (21:27 UTC). The earthquake was followed two hours later by an aftershock of 5.1 moment magnitude. The quakes struck about 50 miles (90 km) east of Kabul near the Pakistan border. A government representative told AP News that the quakes killed 22 people, wounded 20 and destroyed 100 homes.[2]
