"Atonement" is an episode from the fourth season of the science fiction television series Babylon 5.
Synopsis
As Babylon 5 recovers from the propaganda war started on ISN, Sheridan sends Marcus and Dr. Franklin to Mars. Along the journey, they annoy each other, including Marcus singing "The Major-General's Song" to Dr. Franklin's discontent.
Members of Delenn's clan decide that Delenn should return home to Minbar and justify her deepening relationship with John Sheridan. Delenn makes a discovery about her ancestry once she arrives on Minbar.
Story arc significance and continuity
- G'Kar gets his artificial eye implanted and learns that it can function and send images back to him even when he removes it. Very useful information for a Narn with a strange sense of humor
- It is learned that Delenn, after humans inadvertently killed the Minbari leader Dukhat due to a misunderstood gesture, had effectively ordered declaration of war on humanity by casting a deciding Grey Council vote, during a moment of personal shock and anguish following Dukhat's death.
- It is learned that Delenn is a descendant of Valen, and one of many Minbari to be a mixture of human and Minbari as a result. Because she never was pure Minbari, even before undergoing her metamorphosis by the Triluminary, her clan relents and allows Delenn to marry John Sheridan.
- The TV film Babylon 5: Thirdspace may take place during this episode (to the extent that the film's continuity problems can be resolved).
