Aubrey Elizabeth McCormick (born June 24, 1982) is an American professional golfer, and ambassador of sustainability in the sporting industry. Her experience includes assessment and implementation strategies within golf course operations, that drive financial growth, environmental impact, and community engagement. Aubrey resides in Washington, DC and is an MBA student at Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco. Aubrey works for Paladino & Company as a sustainability fellow and is a LEED Green Associate. As Founder and CEO of McCormick Catalyst Group, LLC. she is focused on providing sustainability consulting services that lead the golf industry from compliance to leadership.

Amateur career

McCormick began to play golf at the age of 17.[1] Her father was a scratch golfer, and the family were members at Windermere Country Club in Orlando. Throughout her childhood, her father would encourage her to play golf, but she was interested in other sports like tennis and track. During practice, she noticed some players her age with college golf bags and this intrigued her to find out more about collegiate golf. McCormick and her father worked on her golf swing and she began to send letters out to every college with a women's golf program.

After graduating from Dr. Phillips High School in 2000, she attended Valencia College. In 2001, she received an invitation to try out for the women's golf team at Daytona State College's by women's golf coach and former LPGA Tour player, Laura Brown. After trying out, she was offered a full scholarship.[2] In 2003, after only one year at Daytona State, she was a contributing team member of the 2003 NJCAA National Championship Team, was awarded Most Improved Player of the Year and earned an Associate of Arts degree.

Despite being recruited by more than a dozen teams nationwide, McCormick decided to redshirt one year to work on her game and transferred to Missouri State University, where she was offered a full golf scholarship. She played at MSU for two years, competing in Missouri Valley Conference women's golf tournaments and earning varsity letters both years. She graduated from MSU in 2006 with a degree in psychology

Professional career

After graduating from Missouri State, McCormick turned pro in 2007. She found sponsors and attended the David Leadbetter Academy and the ANNIKA ACADEMY to hone her skills prior to tournament competition. She also competed in the LPGA Futures Tour Qualifying School in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, earning status each year.

McCormick has played on the SunCoast Series, Moonlight Golf Tour[3] and the Futures Tour.[4] She has had some success in tournaments, placing 12th at the Lincoln Women's Met Open Championship [5] and qualifying for regionals during the 2009 Women's US Open.[6]

Television

On March 12, 2012, the Golf Channel announced that McCormick would take part in Big Break Atlantis, season 17 of The Big Break.[7] The reality series took place in Atlantis, Paradise Island, The Bahamas, and featured a skills competition among the all-female cast for various prizes.

Personal life

In 2011, McCormick took a hiatus from golf. She went to work for Green America, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization that aims to promote social justice and environmental sustainability. She has begun to compete again in 2012.

In her spare time, McCormick volunteers with Best Kids, a program that provides mentors to foster children in the Washington, D.C.-area.[8] and mountain biking.
