Auto Parts Warehouse (APW) is an American online retailer of automotive parts and accessories for cars, vans, trucks, and sport utility vehicles. It is one of the flagship websites of U.S. Auto Parts Network (NASDAQ: PRTS), a publicly traded company that owns and manages a chain of auto parts stores and a free automotive repair guide online.[1] Founded in 1995, Auto Parts Warehouse commenced as a small-scale auto parts distributor in California[2] until it established itself as a massively operated e-commerce site for the automotive aftermarket, with more than 2 million stock keeping units (SKUs) in its catalog. With headquarters in Carson, the online retailing site has expanded its market reach and retail distribution in all locations throughout the United States.[3]

Products and Services

The online retailing site offers over 2 million auto-related products through its online sales channels and direct partnerships with suppliers and manufacturers.[4] By eliminating intermediaries common in most supply chains, Auto Parts Warehouse is able to provide a broad selection of automotive parts and accessories and has structured a discount pricing scheme for individual consumers, advocating the DIY (do it yourself) and DIFM (do it for me) market.[5] Its product lineup includes automotive parts and accessories for more than 50 vehicle brands, including domestic and imported makes and models. It sells automotive merchandise from nearly 700 labels, including:

Global aftermarket suppliers

Performance parts manufacturers

Specialty brands

The e-commerce site uses a proprietary product database for tracking SKUs for wide-range product applications based on vehicle make, model, year, and other specifications.[6]

Headquarters and Warehouses

The corporate headquarters of Auto Parts Warehouse is located at 16941 Keegan Avenue, Carson, California. The auto parts retailer operates and maintains several warehouses and distribution centers in various locations in the United States to facilitate product shipping and delivery on schedule.[7]

Certifications and Accreditations

AutoPartsWarehouse.com is a Google Trusted Store,[8] highly rated for its shopping reliability and customer service. Based on the Google Trusted Store reviews, the retailing site was rated 4.5 out of 5 stars. It is StellaService approved[9] and a certified ResellerRatings Elite Merchant, with a rating of 8.44 out of 10 from more than 70,000 reviews,[10] as of January 2015.

Auto Parts Warehouse Mobile App

In April 2013, Auto Parts Warehouse launched its own mobile application,[11] which can be downloaded from Apple’s iTunes[12] and Android’s Google Play.[13] The Auto Parts Warehouse app is developed to give users of smart phones and other mobile devices prompt access to parts and accessories in the retailer’s complete catalog listing. This enables customized searches for auto-related products. According to Shane Evangelist, Chief Executive Officer and Director of U.S. Auto Parts Network, Inc.,[14] the app is designed to give car owners instant and convenient access to the automotive products they need for repair or installation and other services. The app enables instant parts search, order tracking, and comparison shopping, as well as direct contact to the customer service center. Features from the Auto Parts Warehouse site are also available from the app, including secure checkouts and options to save the shipping address for quick ordering and to store vehicle information for parts matching.[15]

Partnership and Sponsorship

Auto Parts Warehouse supports programs intended for US Military service members. In October 2013, it has announced its partnership with Operation Homefront and donated one percent of its total sales during the Veterans Day weekend (November 8 to 11) to the Emergency Assistance Program. The program provides emergency financial assistance, auto and home repair, moving assistance, travel and transportation, food assistance, and vision care, among other forms of aid to military members and their families.[16] A check amounting to US $8,000 was presented by the company’s CEO, Shane Evangelist, to Operation Homefront in December 2013 during the Thanksgiving week. The “Veterans Day Heroes Salute sought to both raise awareness about the unique needs of service members and to help support military families,” according to Shane Evangelist.[17]

The company also initiated other campaigns to continuously support military service men and women. In April 2014, the company introduced the Heroes Automobile Gallery, where active service members and veterans can post pictures of their vehicle and share their own stories. The program also offers 20% military discount on automotive parts.[18] Among other initiatives and activities, Auto Parts Warehouse was able to help restore the vehicles of military service members and veterans. In March 2013, it welcomed Staff Sergeant Ben Sorensen, who was returning home from service, with a fully repaired 1987 Chevy Blazer and some gift certificates. The company donated the needed automotive parts and arranged the vehicle repair with free labor from Dave’s Complete Auto Service of Layton, Utah.[19] In July 2014, army veteran Sergeant Rick Robertson also received free automotive parts for the repair of his 2005 Dodge Ram 15000 SLT 4x4, along with a gift certificate from the company.[20]

Web Presence

Auto Parts Warehouse has served millions of auto parts customers and DIY enthusiasts since it was established in 1995.[21] The number of unique visitors of the website ranges from around 1.4 million to about 2.4 million according to the published web traffic analysis and rankings from Compete.com between December 2013 and December 2014.[22] The auto parts retailing company has maintained online visibility through its stream of social media networks, including Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, and YouTube. It has also launched its own official blog that publishes news, press release, and other automotive-related resources and prints online.
