Ayekpam Tomba Meetei is an Indian social worker, works for the welfare of orphans and economically poor people of Manipur. He has also contributed towards the revival of the Meetei Mayek script.[1]The Government of India honored him in 2010, with the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri.[2] His tireless efforts & contribution towards the language & script of Meetei's since the Meetei Mayek[Script] Conference held in 1969 resulted in tremendous support in the introduction of Meetei Mayek[Script] in the school of Manipur, in 2005. He spent 3(Three) month in Sajiwa Jail during agitation of MEELAL, for being the Advisor of MEELAL who spearheaded the demand for introduction of Meetei Mayek[Script] in the school curricula of Manipur. In 1992, he, along with like minded people from 18 organisation went to New Delhi to meet central minister under Prime Minister P V Narashima Rao seeking plea for inclusion of "MEETEILOL"[Meetei Language - Manipuri] in the 8th Schedule of Indian constitution. Agitations were carried out infront of parliament & India Gate for the said cause. Finally, Manipuri language along with Nepali & Konkani were included in the 8th Schedule in that year.
