Bagdogra is a census town in Darjeeling district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Bagdogra is a town in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India, which is surrounded by tea gardens. Bagdogra is part of the Greater Siliguri Metropolitan Area. Bagdogra is well connected by air from four major cities of India - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata & Chennai. Bagdogra has a railway station. Bagdogra Airport is the only airport in North Bengal, which is now an Customs Airport.[1]
Geography
Bagdogra is located at 26°25′N 88°11′E / 26.42°N 88.19°E. It is 11 km away from Siliguri, which is second largest city of the West Bengal. It is a town in which two NH are there which connect many town & city like Siliguri, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Malbazar, Birpara, Islampur, Kharibari, Nepal, Pankabari, Merik.

Airway
The one airport, Bagdogra Airport, (IATA: IXB, ICAO: VEBD) is located in about 16 km (9.9 mi) west of the city of Siliguri in the Darjeeling district in northern West Bengal, India. It is operated as a civil enclave at AFS Bagdogra of the Indian Air Force. It is the gateway airport to the hill station towns of Darjeeling, Kurseong, Mirik, and Kalimpong and the state of Sikkim, and sees thousands of tourists annually. Permits for Foreign tourists intending to journey to Sikkim are issued at this airport. The airport is a major stop in the region with flights connecting Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Guwahati. The airport also has regular helicopter flights to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The central government of India conferred customs airport status to the airport in 2002 with limited international operations.[2][3] Air traffic at Bagdogra crossed 1 million for the first time growing at 43.6% percent in 2014-15. This is one of the few airports in India with zero sales tax on aviation turbine fuel.[4]
Railway
It has Railway Station in NFR Siliguri - Katihar Railway which connect many town :- Siliguri, Bagdogra, Naxalbari, Aluabari(Islampur), Kishanganj, Katihar.
Roadway
It has two National Highways :- NH 31 and NH 31C. It also has Aisan Highway (AH2) which is connected with Nepal and Bangladesh.
It provides a gateway to the state of North - East India. Economy
Most of Bagdogra's economy is related with its adjoining tea gardens and factories. Bagdogra does not have any major industry apart from its tea gardens. It has a market of Chinese good called Air Port Market. Bagdogra also has haat(bajar) which sits every Thursday and Sunday. There is also presence of public and private sector banks as well as insurance company offices in Bagdogra. Public sector Banks operating in Bagdogra: State Bank Of India, Central Bank Of India, United Bank Of India, Bank of India and Indian Overseas Bank. Bagdogra is a beautiful town situated at the terai region. It has lush green forests and tea-gardens near by. Panighata and Dudhia, which are small beautiful villages located just at the foot-hills of Himalayas, are only a 20km drive from Bagdogra. Bagdogra also has a tourist lodges and hotels. Tourist Attractions in Bagdogra
Bagdogra is a small hill station in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. This small hill town is one of the most quiet and peaceful locations to spend some quality time with a loved one or an adventurous trip with a group of friends. Bagdogra has very limited tourist attractions however there are a few which have caught the eye of the traveller while visiting this heavenly place. There are quite a few places to see in Bagdogra that are also an integral part of Bagdogra tourist attractions. The Coronation Bridge was named so as it was built to honour the coronation of King George V. This is one the oldest monuments of Bagdogra as it was built in 1930. From here the tourist can view the amalgamation of two important rivers of North Bengal- River Teesta and River Rangeet.
Kali Mandir
The Kali Mandir is situated about an hour away from Bagdogra near the Coronation Bridge. This temple contains the idol of Goddess Kali bejewelled, holding swords and other armoury. This temple also offers a fabulous view of the Kanchenjunga peak with beautiful lush greenery all around.
The Mahananda Wildlife sanctuary
The Mahananda Wildlife sanctuary is a forest reserve located in the middle of River Mahananda and River Teesta and one of the well-known Bagdogra tourist attractions. This beautiful sanctuary is about half an hour away from Bagdogra and offers the tourist a splendid opportunity to sight The Royal Bengal Tiger, the Indian Bison, the barking deer, Sambar, Indian elephants and other mammals and birds.
ISKCON temple
ISKCON temple which is one of the most popular pilgrim sights for all Hindu followers is located about half an hour away from Bagdogra. This beautiful temple is built around the story of Radha-Krishna. This is temple also houses idols of Advait Acharya, Lord Narsimha and others and is a popular Bagdogra attraction. Besides the ones mentioned above few other places to visit in Bagdogra are the Science City in Siliguri, Umrao Singh Boat club in Sukhna, Salugara monastery, white water rafting in the River Teesta, etc.
