Baker Beach (Alcatraz)
Baker Beach is a small beach and rocky coastal area on the southwestern side of Alcatraz Island, off the coast of San Francisco, United States. It lies just east of the long two-storey New Industries Building. During the most violent escape attempt from Alcatraz in May 1946, Al Capone's gang "had seized a patrol boat and a group of escapees had landed down at Baker Beach. The radio contradicted these reports, but from the seawall you could see that a marine flotilla had surrounded Alcatraz Island and helicopters."[1]
