Balach Marri (Urdu: مير بالاچ مری) was the leader of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist organization fighting for autonomy of Balochistan province from the state of Pakistan.

Education

Marri was one of six sons of the Balochistan politician Khair Bakhsh Marri. Marri's brothers are Hyrbyair Marri, Ghazan Marri, Hamza Marri, Mehran Marri, and Changez Marri. Marri qualified as an electronic engineer from Moscow. As was customary during those times, the KGB actively cultivated relationships with Baloch students in Russia. Balach Marri was one of their success stories.[1]

Creation of BLA

As the war was raging in Baluchistan, and after dozens of military operations on civilian populated areas, In 1980s, Baloch liberation army came into existence fighting for an independent Baluchistan, BLA was formed and led by Balach Marri and is still active in many areas of Baluchistan targeting military convoys and non Baluch migrant workers.

Controversies

The Chairman of the Baluch Youth Council, Mir Hazar Khan Baluch, has said Baluch separatist leaders Balach Marri and his brother Herbyar Marri was involved in the killing of Justice Muhammad Nawaz Marri.[2]
