Bismil Azimabadi (1901 - 1978) was an Urdu poet from Patna, Bihar. In 1921 he wrote the patriotic poem Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna.[1] The poem was immortalised by Ram Prasad Bismil, an Indian freedom fighter, as a war cry during the British Raj period in India.[2] It was first published in journal "Sabah", published from Delhi.[3][4]
Bihar Urdu Academy gives award in his name, the award is known as "Bismil Azimabadi Award". In 2016 this was given to poet Praveen Ashq.[5]
