The Brandeis International Business School (IBS) is the business school at Brandeis University, located in Waltham, Massachusetts. Brandeis IBS offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs in business, finance and economics and has over 2,000 alumni serving in over 75 firms across 92 countries. Academics at Brandeis IBS focus on themes of international business and global economics, supplemented by over 60 faculty members, all of whom have research or corporate experience. Peter A. Petri was the founding dean at Brandeis IBS. More recently, Bruce R. Magid, Ph.D., has been appointed dean of the school, effective July 1, 2007.

History

Brandeis University -the parent institution of Brandeis IBS- was founded in 1948.

Brandeis IBS was first established as the Graduate School of International Economics and Finance, reflecting increased student enrollment in economics and finance courses, and the creation of the Ph.D. in International Economics and Finance in 1994. In 1998, the MBA and Master of Science in Finance (MSF) programs were added, broadening the scope of the school’s teaching and research.

The school was renamed the Brandeis International Business School in 2003 to reflect this broader expertise and the increasing focus on international and global business. In 2010, Brandeis University introduced a business major, through which undergraduates are able to take graduate classes in management and international finance at Brandeis IBS.

Academics

The school's teaching addresses three core areas: management, finance and economic policy. Each is taught within the context of the global economy and against the background of international interdependence. All students are required to have or acquire international experience and knowledge of a language other than English. Brandeis IBS has exchange relationships with 20 universities and schools of business in Europe, Asia, and South America and encourages students to spend at least one semester studying abroad

The BA/MA, BA/MBA and BS/MBA are dual degree programs allowing Brandeis graduates with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree to complete the Brandeis IBS MBA or MA at an accelerated pace, with one extra year of study after completing a bachelor’s program in another subject. The school's research addresses various dimensions of international interdependence, including currency markets, asset prices, patents and technology flows, international strategic alliances, trade policy, central banking, international branding and marketing, and multicultural communication. Through these centers Brandeis IBS has hosted high-profile speakers from business and government, including Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone, Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
