Brian Beedenbender (born May 11, 1980) is an American politician, former Suffolk County, New York Legislator, and former Chief of Staff to Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko.[1] Beedenbender won his election for Suffolk County Legislature for District 4 in 2007 at age 27.[2] Beedenbender has served as Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko's Chief of Staff since 2010.[3] Beedenbender was selected as the Democrat nominee to run for Brookhaven Supervisor after Mark Lesko vacates his seat to become the Executive Director of Accelerate Long Island in September 2012.[4][5]
Biography
Beedenbender lives in Centereach and grew up in Selden. He received his Bachelor's degree from James Madison University and his Master's degree from the University of Delaware.[6] Beedenbender started as an intern to Congressman Tim Bishop and later served as an aide to County Executive Steve Levy.[7]
Suffolk County Legislator for District 4
During his term as Suffolk County Legislator, Beedenbender sponsored legislation to create Suffolk County Open Access, a website where residents and constituents can view financial and ethical information for governments and elected officials.[8] He focused on veterans issues, creating a program to help veterans facing foreclosure and secured funding for a veteran's monument, and also worked on quality of life issues such as roads and parks.[9][10] Beedenbender served as Chair of the Public Works and Transportation Committee.[11]
Brookhaven Chief of Staff
While Chief of Staff in the Town of Brookhaven to Supervisor Mark Lesko, Beedenbender worked with Lesko on economic development projects like the Ronkonkoma Hub Transit-Oriented Development.[12] Beedenbender also made proposals to the Brookhaven Town Board to streamline Town services and encourage public-private partnerships to save the Town money.[13]
