The Class 195[3] is a class of diesel multiple unit being constructed for Arriva UK Trains subsidiary Northern by Spanish rolling stock manufacturer CAF. A total of 55 units are to be built which will be divided into 25 2-car units and 30 3-car units.

History

The announcement of the new trains was made by Arriva UK Trains when it was confirmed that they would become the next operator of the Northern franchise from 1 April 2016.[4] In early 2016 it was confirmed that Spanish rolling stock manufacturer CAF are to construct the new diesel powered trains which are planned to operate on some Northern Connect regional express services from 2019 and allow for the replacement of Class 142 and Class 144 Pacer trains.[5]
