CICMH

The Center for Indian Classical Music of Houston (CICMH) is a non- profit 501 (c)(3) organization founded by Pandit Suman Ghosh to spearhead the cause of Indian Classical music in the Western Hemisphere.

Mission

CICMH was incorporated to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. The objectives of CICMH are primarily to:

Achieve an increasing awareness of Indian Classical Music, which is an ancient Indian Art-form.
Impart the history, theory, understanding and rendition of Indian Classical Music and the associated tradition to those who are interested, through artists’ performances, students’ presentations, and workshops to the general population many of who might otherwise not be aware of the richness of this music culture.
Promote interest, understanding, and skill in the Indian Classical Music art form and enhance the diversity in the community through increased cultural, ethnic and social understanding as open audiences and outreach expand through music orientation and workshops.
Indian Classical music is known to contribute to the health and wellness of the musicians as well as the audience. In addition to bringing about cultural enrichment of the community, CICMH aims to help bring about calmness and peace to the residents of the Greater Houston Area through this meditative activity.

History

Pandit Suman Ghosh, founded CICMH, with a goal of making the treasure of Indian Classical Music accessible to and be a part of everyday life for every individual, because of its sheer ability to elevate the quality of life for anybody, irrespective of one’s background, lifestyle or occupation. He brought this effort to USA in 2000, laid the foundation for it and established the Center for Indian Classical Music of Houston (CICMH) in the year 2008, to spearhead the cause of this music in its purest form.

Activities

Greater Houston Area has seen many conceptually novel events in the field of Classical Music, organized by CICMH. Saadhana Pariwar, the Gurukul of CICMH offers music learners the unique and extraordinary opportunity to learn directly from a Maestro and one of the most revered Music Gurus in the field - experiencing pearls of his musical wisdom, knowledge and mastery. CICMH provides them with various unique platforms to showcase the results of their “Saadhana” (disciplined and dedicated practice or learning). A few of them are-

Saadhana Samvid – a series of of vocal presentations where nearly 80-90 disciples of Pandit Ghosh perform solo.
Saadhana Unmesh – a grand stage to showcase the disciples’ musical blossoming
Saadhana Gunateeta Sang – the privilege and blessing to spend an exclusive evening in the presence the living legend of Indian music, Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj-Ji.
Manch Pravesh, formal stage debut as solo performers.
Saadhana Sur Sang, a concert series where CICMH presents professional performers. Some of the performers in this series include Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Vidushi Manju Mehta.
