Cabot Investing Advice is an independent investment advisory company based in Salem, Massachusetts. The company’s primary service is the publication of 12 newsletters, which cover a range of investment styles, with an estimated 225,000 readers.[1] It also offers investment advice through its free website, www.cabot.net, and blog, The Iconoclast Investor. Founded in 1970 by the late Carlton Lutts Jr., the company currently is run by his son, Timothy Lutts.[2]

Cabot Growth Investor

The company's flagship advisory, Cabot Growth Investor (formerly Cabot Market Letter), was published in 1970 out of the home of Carlton Lutts Jr.[3] Now edited by Michael Cintolo, it is considered a successful veteran newsletter.[4][5] Most recently, it distinguished itself by anticipating the 2008 recession and then catching the subsequent rebound.[6] The letter leads the other Cabot advisories for most awards, with accolades from Timer Digest, Hulbert Financial Digest and the Specialized Information Publishers Foundation.[7][8][9] Cabot Market Letter was formally renamed to Cabot Growth Investor on May 29, 2015.

Other newsletters

Cabot produces 10 other paid subscription newsletters that reflect various investment styles: Cabot Cabot Stock of the Month, Cabot Top Ten Trader, Cabot China & Emerging Markets Report, Cabot Benjamin Graham Value Investor, Cabot Small-Cap Confidential, Cabot Dividend Investor, two editions of the Cabot Options Trader, and the Dick Davis Investment Digest and Dick Davis Dividend Digest, both of which were acquired in 2008.[10] The company publishes one free e-newsletter, Cabot Wealth Advisory.

Cabot's newsletters are researched and written by a staff of 12 financial analysts. The analysts are occasionally interviewed by major news outlets, speaking about market trends and current topics such as electric cars [11] and the Chinese economy.[12]

Strategy

Cabot combines market timing with a stock selection system based on fundamental and technical factors.[13] Its analysts have developed several proprietary market-timing indicators used to make recommendations, including the Two-Second Indicator[14] and the Cabot Tides.[15] Cabot conducts its research independently; Timothy Lutts has voiced his disapproval of investment newsletters that accept sponsorship from a business and in return promote its stock.[16]
