California Northstate University College of Medicine (CNUCOM) is a for-profit medical school located in Elk Grove, CA and one of three colleges of California Northstate University.[1] The school was approved by the WASC in August 2013 and gained preliminary accreditation in June 2015 by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.[2][3] Joseph Silva, MD, currently serves as the Dean of Medicine.[4] CNUCOM enrolled its first class of 60 students in August 2015.[5]
History
California Northstate University (CNU) is a new institution established following the College of Pharmacy in 2008.[6] CNUCOM is dedicated to educating, developing, and training physicians to help with the primary care physician shortage in Northern California.[7] CNU has a College of Health Sciences for undergraduates with a combined BS/MD program[8] as well as a pre-med post-Baccalaureate program.[9]
Admissions and Academics
The Class of 2020 had average MCAT score of 33 and GPA of 3.5, with 8% under-represented minority students. 86% of students were from California.[10] The 4-year MD program follows a Clinical Presentations curriculum, with training in basic sciences, clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning, ethics and 46 week long clerkship rotations during the third year.[11]
