Canadian Geography Challenge

The Great Canadian Geography Challenge is an annual academic competition in Canada dedicated to the testing of geographic knowledge among kids in fourth through tenth grades.[1]

History

The Geography Challenge was created in 1995, administered by Canadian Geographic Education.[2]

Competition

The Geography Challenge begins at the school level. Students in grades 4 through 6 compete only at the school level, but from grades 7 through 10, students can participate in further competition. School winners will be administered a Provincial Challenge test. The top scoring students from each territory/province will get a certificate recognizing their achievement, then continue on to the National Finals, held in April. The competition takes place online at the Geography Challenge website, and the top three scorers will be declared the Canadian National Champions, and given cash prizes of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 respectively. The National Champions continue onto the National Geographic World Championship, where they will compete against the top geography students from countries around the globe.[3]
