Charles Mckee is a former professional American football wide receiver in the National Football League and the World Football League. He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2nd round (52 overall) of the 1972 NFL Draft. He also played for the Detroit Wheels. He graduated from the University of Arizona.[1]
Early years
He attended the University of Arizona, where he finished his career with 85 receptions, 1,652 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. As a senior he was a co-captain and the team's deep threat. He finished the year with 43 receptions for 854 receiving yards (205 yards against Oregon State University) and 5 touchdowns. He also played in the Senior Bowl.[2]
Professional career
Dallas Cowboys
In the 1972 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys had two second round draft choices, with the second choice they selected McKee, whose nickname was "Earl the Pearl".[3]
He had a disappointing training camp and was waived before the season started.[4]
New England Patriots
In 1972 he was signed by the New England Patriots, but was released and spent the rest of the season on their taxi squad.[5] The next year he was released before the season started.[6]
Detroit Wheels (WFL)
In 1974, he was signed by the Detroit Wheels of the World Football League.[7] After finishing in last place (1-13 record) that season, the league folded the team.
Denver Broncos
In 1975 he signed with the Denver Broncos but was released during the offseason.[8]
New York Jets
After being waived, he signed with the New York Jets but was released before the start of the season.[9]
