Agonda is a large village located in Canacona in South Goa, India. Agonda is famous for its beach and It is one of the only four beaches designated as turtle nesting sites under the Coastal Regulation Zone 2011 notification.[1][2][3] There is one more beach on other side of Agonda cliff called Cola beach which has an adjoining lagoon.[4]

The Agonda village has population of 3801 of which 1801 are males while 2000 are females as per Population Census 2011. In Agonda village population of children with age 0-6 is 396 which makes up 10.42% of total population of village. Average Sex Ratio of Agonda village is 1110 which is higher than Goa state average of 973. Child Sex Ratio for the Agonda as per census is 1152, higher than Goa average of 942. Agonda village has lower literacy rate compared to Goa. In 2011, literacy rate of Agonda village was 86.11% compared to 88.70% of Goa. In Agonda Male literacy stands at 91.47% while female literacy rate was 81.26%.

As per constitution of India and Panchyati Raaj Act, Agonda village is administrated by Sarpanch (Head of Village) who is elected representative of village.

Agonda Beach is a public beach located in Agonda village in Goa, India, about 9.2 kilometres (5.7 mi) north of Palolem Beach in South Goa, and about an hour from Margao.[5]

During the month of September, the beach serves as a nesting ground for olive ridley sea turtles.[6]

In 2016 it was ranked on TripAdvisor's "Travelers Choice" as fourth in Asia by Tripadvisor 2016[7] and first in India.[8]
