Colby High School is a public school located in Colby, Wisconsin. It is located on the Clark county border which is joined by Marathon county students in the enrollment. This school currently, 2013 year,consists of 203 males and 195 females making the total enrollment 398 in the high school.[1]
Academics
Colby High School offers courses in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, special education, health and physical education, and family and consumer education. They also offer a couple of technology classes like newspaper publishing and yearbook editing, communications, woodworking, auto mechanics, and metals.
Extra Curricular
Some of the extra curricular activities offered at Colby High School are FFA (Future Farmers of America)[2] FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) NHS (National Honor Society) and Student Council.
Athletics
Colby's athletic program splits their programs into three trimesters: fall, winter, and spring.
- Fall Sports: football, volleyball, cross country, and women's swimming.[3]
- Winter Sports: boys and girls basketball and wrestling.[4]
- Spring Sports: baseball, softball, track & field, and golf.[5]
Music Department
- Choral:The choral department consists of three different groups. Each group is directed by Kevin J. Spindler and the head dance captain of the year.
- Coalition: This group is a singing and dancing choir that competes at music festivals all over Wisconsin. Both male and female individuals can participate. Try outs begin at the beginning of the year with results being released one month later, then from there the group gets busy with learning music and choreography.
- Hornettes: The Hornettes consist of all female singers and dancers. This group also competes at music festivals in Wisconsin. Try outs begin and are released at the same time as Coalitions.
- Mixed Choir: Includes both genders with no try outs and no traveling.
- Band: The Band department is directed by Nathan Larsen, and consists of three groups: Marching/Pep Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band.
- Marching/Pep Band: This group is the main body of the band program. They perform for parades around the Colby area over the summer, and perform for football and basketball games hosted in Colby. On the event Colby football heads to play for State Championship, the band goes along to give support and perform. This group also performs for Memorial Day services in both Colby and Dorchester.
- Jazz Band: This group is a smaller section of the band devoted to performing different kinds of Jazz, Pop, Latin, and other music. They currently perform only for concert events.
- Concert Band: This group is arguably the largest of the band groups. Performing for concerts and Large Group Festival, this part of the band program plays all different kinds of music for different seasons and occasions, such as the yearly Christmas and Spring concerts, as well as for graduation.
- Color Guard: The Color Guard is directed by Kerrie Karau, and functions as a complementary unit of the band program.
