Curtis H. Barnette

Curtis H. "Hank" Barnette (born 1935) is Chairman Emeritus of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, where he worked for 33 years.[1]

Early life

Barnette was born in 1935 in St. Albans, West Virginia.[2] Following his 1962 graduation from West Virginia University, Barnette studied as a Fulbright Scholar at Manchester University in England, where he received a degree in international law. He graduated from Yale Law School in 1975.[3]

Career

Barnette joined the legal department of Bethlehem Steel in 1967 and played a vital role in the company's 1986 labor negotiations. In 1976, he was named assistant vice president and secretary of the company.[4] In 1992, he was named chairman, and he held the position until 2000.[5]

In 1989, he was appointed to the President's Trade Advisory Committee and served until 2001 under Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush. He also served on the Council of the Administrative Conference of the United States in 1988 under President Ronald Reagan and was appointed to the Coal Commission in 1990 by Secretary of Labor Elizabeth Dole.[6]
