D.H. Conley High School is a high school in Greenville, North Carolina, founded in 1970. It is the home of the Vikings. The school's main rival is Junius H Rose High School along with South Central High School. D.H. Conley's principal for the 2009-2010 school year was Mary Carter. D.H. Conley's new principal for the 2013-2014 school year is Don Marr. The school colors are navy blue and gold. Conley is currently rated 8 out of 10 on greatschools.com
Sports
D.H. Conley allows students to participate in a variety of sports, including softball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, football, swimming, tennis, basketball, wrestling, track, cross country running, and cheerleading. The Lacrosse Club was started by students in the 2013-2014 school year. D.H. Conley has a very competitive sports division, and many times the teams go to State playoffs.
Athletic Championships
The men's varsity basketball team won state 3-A championships in 1987 and 1990. The varsity baseball team WAS named state 4-A champions in 2005. In 2006, Conley followed up with a 3-A state baseball championship title. The Varsity Cheerleading Squad won the Conference Championship Title and the State Championship Title in their 2002-2003 season. The DH Conley volleyball team won high school 3A volleyball championships in 1986 and 2007. The men's wrestling team won the state 3-A championship in 1995. The softball team won the 3-A state championship in 2011 and followed up with another 3-A state championship in 2013. The softball team also won the 4A State Championship in 2015.
Clubs
The largest club at DH Conley is the Conley Crazies. Each year, they design shirts which are worn at sporting events where the 'crazies' can sit in their own section to cheer on the team. Also, this club helps to pick days for spirit week, which always celebrates crazy blue and gold day on the Friday of that week. Conley also has many honor societies including Beta Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Art Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Technical Honors Society, Nu Alpha Delta, Spanish Honors Society, and French Honor Society. Most of these clubs promote volunteering to gain points to wear cords for graduation, which takes place at Minges Coliseum at East Carolina University. The Quiz Bowl club also has had success at Conley; they appeared on television in 2005 for the state championship in which they placed second. The Quiz Bowl again placed second in the state championship during the 2012-2013 school year. The Quiz Bowl team placed second in the 2013-2014 Regional Conference. Model United Nations is a club which competes at East Carolina University in the Model United Nations Conference. Also, Close Up is a club which always volunteers for Special Olympics, ECU games, the Pitt County Fair, and Eastern Regionals. They take a yearly trip to Washington, DC for National Close Up Conference. D.H. Conley has Bible Club, Chess Club, DECA, FBLA, FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes; non athletes are encouraged to join), FTA (Future Teachers of America), Link Crew, HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), Rachel's Challenge (A club who's motives are to empower a positive change), SASI (Student Athletes For Sports Integrity), SCA (Student Council Association), Sierra Club (Club's motive: increase environmental awareness in the community), and Skills USA.
Classes
As the largest school in Pitt County with 1700 students, D.H. Conley is able to offer many classes with standard, honors, and AP levels. Furthermore, distance learning is also available to connect with other schools in Pitt County to offer more classes. The day is divided into four periods on block scheduling with ninety-minute classes. Students report to RAP period after first period. RAP period is the equivalent of homeroom, where students may receive tutoring in each subject for 30 minutes. Four lunches are served daily during third period, with fourth lunch being the last. Languages offered include French, Spanish, and others online. Some classes, like yearbook and journalism, require an application process to take. The yearbook is called the Valkyrian, and the newspaper is called The Shield.
