DJ JamJam

Steve JamJam (born October 31, 1987), also known as DJ JamJam or Oyinbo Swagger (White Boy Swagger), is an English afrobeats disc jockey, record producer, singer/rap artist and has his own radio show.[1] He is currently signed to Aristokrat Records.[2]

Biography

Early life and career beginnings

Dj JamJam was born on Oct 31, 1987, in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Dj JamJam came to prominence on the London club scene playing at establishments such as Movida, Merah, Jalouse Club, CC Club, Taman Gang, Juju Chelsea, CokoBar, Guvnor Bar. He progressed onto concerts at London's O2, Hammersmith Apollo, Troxy,the Stratford Rex and London’s live music event “I Luv Live” which has brought the likes of Tinie Tempah, Jessie J, Emeli Sandé, Taio Cruz and N-Dubz to the stage.[3] International fame came in the Afrobeat scene after a successful tour of Nigeria where he appeared on national prime-time TV and Radio networks and headlined the Atlanta Carnival 2009 in Lagos.[3]

Career

The interest in witnessing a white English DJ so involved in the Afrobeats scene has led him to perform in many countries like Cyprus, Denmark, Ukraine, Finland, Malaysia, Egypt, Canada, Nigeria, Scotland, Ireland and France (Deejaying the opening cocktail party of the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards. Performing his signature stunt of leaving the decks to dance on the stage.[3]

Dj JamJam won an award at the AEA International DJ in 2011, and was nominated at the 2011 Nigeria Entertainment Awards in New York. He has since returned to London and has been touring across the UK and has been regularly aired on BBC Radio 1Xtra. He has also made numerous TV appearances including VOX Africa, HiTV and BEN Television. The Boston Globe listed his “Oyinbo Swagga Vol.2″ mixtape as one of World music’s top albums of 2011. He has then been nominated at UK's Official Mixtape Awards for his 2012 “Afroheat” in the Best Afrobeats category.[4]

Alongside his BBC Radio 1Xtra guest DJ responsibilities JamJam has become an on-air radio personality previously presenting on stations such as Westside 89.6FM, Reprezent 107.3 FM, Jamrock Radio. He now has his radio show on London’s top urban station Bang Radio 103.6FM. The JamJam Afrobeats Show is ranked the #1 afrobeats podcast in the world, bringing it to the top of the iTunes podcast feature page.[5] The Show is sponsored by one of Nigeria’s most notable American based music websites NotJustOk. The show’s banter has become legendary and top guests have included Wizkid, Ice Prince, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Naeto C, Lynxxx, Eldee, Shank, Seyi Shay, Fuse ODG, Mista Silva, Noni Zondi, and 2kriss.[6]
