Review

"This performance would’t fit into the Barbican Programme but I can see them working in various other contexts in the UK. I really enjoyed Danpyunsun and the Sailors, whose drew heavily on Western indie-rock but added and eccentric twist which was very engaging. Again, not something for my audience particularly but smaller boutique festivals like Field day, End of The Road or Secret Garden Party could perhaps find a place for them."

"Danpyunsun and the Sailors is a perfectly exportable package of music. Even the language barrier is not an impediment to being able to appreciate the soulful music represented by these artists. The retro-cool look of a long-haired front man backed up by a band including strings is very watchable."

"The record "Animal", a combination of Asian and Western music and emotions, has a keen edge and sustains a feeling of tension and its roughness throughout the album. Even more surprisingly, each of the member’s parts is in balance. I’m now thinking about the title “animal”. Maybe it is the most proper title for this album. It roars, growls, and sometimes crouches.

Danpyunsun and the Sailors’ live shows are a perfect storm of great song writing and full blooded performance. Their new single “Lover,” featuring Kim Sawol, comes close to replicating the experience. First reaction was “fuck yeah.” My 9th and 10th haven’t moved beyond that yet.
