Darcy Vescio is an Australian rules footballer with Carlton in the AFL Women's competition.
Amateur career
Vescio began playing football with her brother at the age of 5.[1] She stopped playing competitive football at age 14 however, when she was no longer allowed to play with the youth boys team.[2]
Vescio started playing again at age 18 though, when she moved to Melbourne from her home town Wangaratta and joined the Darebin Falcons in the Victorian Women's Football League.[1][2] She won premierships with the club in four consecutive seasons (2013-2016) and won best-on-ground honours in two of these matches (2015, 2016).[3]
Vescio has represented Victoria at state championships in 2013 and 2015.[1]
She was drafted by the Western Bulldogs in 2014, and played for the club in exhibition series matches between 2014 and 2016.[1]
AFL Women's career
Vescio was signed as a marquee player by Carlton in July 2016, ahead of the league's inaugural 2017 season.[4]
Personal life
Vescio works part-time at the Carlton Football Club as a graphic designer.[1] She was responsible for designing the club's inaugural women's guernsey.[2]
She was born and raised in the Victorian town of Wangaratta and attended school at Wangaratta High School.[5] Vescio is of Italian and Chinese heritage and is an AFL Multicultural Ambassador.[2]
