Davi Albino is a Brazilian Greco-Roman wrestler, representing his national at international competitions in the -96kg or -98kg events.
Albino was homeless when he was young. He earned money by guarding parked cars next to a wrestling gym in the streets of São Paulo. Albino started to train at the gym. Encouraged by his future coach, he took up Greco-Roman wrestling. After performing strongly in his early bouts, he then went on to win a special scholarship from the Brazilian government for high performance athletes. He participated at world championships, including at the 2009 World Championships and 2015 World Championships. At the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto he won the bronze medal. Five times national champion, he is the first Brazilian male athlete to have featured in the top 20 ranking of United World Wrestling, the sport’s international federation. He will be part of the Brazilian team competing at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
On 14 June 2016 he carried the Olympic torch as part of he 2016 Summer Olympics torch relay in the city of Imperatriz.[1]
