The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) database describes Dinsmores using its "populated place" feature class, which is tersely defined as having a "permanent human population".^[2]^[3] David Durham describes Dinsmores as a "locality", in contrast to places like Dinsmore, which he calls a "village".^[1]
