"Disco Science" is the first single released in 1999 by the French singer/songwriter and producer Mirwais Ahmadzai, better known as Mirwais. The song was the lead single from his second album, Production, released by Naive records on April 21, 2000.[1]
Reception
"Disco Science" received critical acclaim from music critics worldwide. Remixes by Giorgio Moroder, Joey Negro, and Thin White Duke completed the release.[2]
Music video
The music video for "Disco Science" was directed by Stephane Sednaoui.[3] It was inspired by the 1970s Nagima Oshima film, In the Realm of Senses. MTV banned the video for its explicit sexual content.
Background
Mirwais composed the song in the late 1990s after observing the dance floors in disco clubs, which he compared to a science experiment because of its reproducibility. A sample from Breeders's "Cannonball" was included later to add a more rock vibe.[4]
In popular culture
"Disco Science" has been used on many commercials and movies including the chase scene from Guy Ritchie's Snatch.[5]
