Donald Danister Hewagama
Donald Danister Hewagama was a Judge Advocate General to the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka.
Hewagama was born in Payagala in the Kalutara southern Sri Lanka as the only son of Arther Hewagama (Grand son of Hewagamage H. Appuhamy) and Mabel Alexandria Wijesinghe Jayewardene (who was the cousin of Junius Richard Jayewardene, the President of Sri Lanka in the 1977 Government).
Career
Hewegama graduated from the University of Ceylon and took oaths as an Advocate. He joined the Legal Draftsmen Department of Sri Lanka. In 1967 he was appointed as the Judge Advocate General to the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka permanently by Sirimavo Bandaranaike, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, with the endorsement of the Opposition in Parliament headed by J.R. Jayawardene. He served until 1982 October 22nd and was the first Sri Lankan to hold this position. He died in 2009.
