The Continuous Optimization Working Group of EURO (also, EUROPT) is a working group whose objective is to promote original research in the field of continuous optimization at the European level. EUROPT is the unique European working group on continuous optimization. It is one of the largest working groups of EURO. It includes most of European researchers working on continuous optimization. Continuous optimization includes linear programming, convex optimization, global optimization [1] [2]
History
EUROPT is one of the working groups of EURO, the Association of European Operational Research Societies. The Group was founded in 2000 in occasion of the EURO XVII Conference in Budapest.
Governance
The group has a Managing Board. The actual composition (2016-2018) of the Managing Board is:
- Giancarlo Bigi, Website Editor
- Sonia Cafieri, Newsletter Editor
- Andreas Grothey, Treasurer
- Dmitri Kvasov, Events Coordinator
- Edmondo Minisci, Communication Coordinator
- Fabio Schoen, Relations Coordinator
- Julius Zilinskas, Chair
Past chairs who currently keep serving the working group as honorary chairs are:
- Tibor Illés
- Tamás Terlaky
- Gerhard Wilhelm Weber
In the past the working group has been chaired also by
- Janos Pinter
- Kaisa Miettinen
- Marco A. López Cerdá
- Florian Jarre
Membership
The group is suitable for people who are presently engaged in Continuous Optimization, either in theoretical aspects or in business, industry or public administration applications. Currently (2016), the group has over 1200 members.
Fellowship
Each year one fellowship is awarded to an outstanding researcher in the field. The winner is invited to deliver a plenary lecture at the annual workshop of the group. Past winners include Yaroslav D. Sergeyev,[3] Panos Pardalos,[4] Immanuel Bomze, Joaquim João Júdice, Juan Enrique Martinez-Legaz, Yurii Nesterov, Adil Bagirov, Cornelis Roos, Georg Still and Alexander Rubinov.
Conferences
EUROPT holds conferences on a regular basis (once a year during summer, usually just before the main EURO conference).
The most recent Workshops of EUROPT have been:
- 14th EUROPT Workshop on Advances in Continuous Optimization, July 1–2, 2016, Warsaw, Poland, www

Publications
In most cases, the annual conference is followed by peer reviewed special issue(s) of an international journal, presenting a selection of the contributions presented at the meeting. Recent special issues:
