He initially played high school ball at Columbus High School (Bronx),[2] where he led them to an 11–1 start in the PSAL League.[3] Opong played basketball at Sullivan Community College.[4] He later played 2 years at SUNY Albany.[5]
Professional
Opong is known for his diminutive size.[6] This though has not stopped him from playing well in places such as the Rucker Park as a street baller.[6] He earned the nickname "I'll be right back",[7] where he would drive past an opponent and come back to where he started.[6] He played several years at the park.[8] While there he led his team to a title in the Entertainers Basketball Classic[2] and he ran circles around NBA starter Rafer Alston.[9] He was named to ESPN's Elite 24 basketball legends.[10]
