Edward Merewether

Sir Edward Marsh Merewether KCMG KCVO (9 September 1858 28 December 1938) was a British colonial administrator.

Biography

Merewether was born on 9 September 1858. He was a cadet in the Straits Settlements Civil Service (SSCC) in 1880. Became Superintendent of the Census in 1891. He was appointed Lieutenant-Governor and Chief Secretary to the Government of Malta in May 1902,[1] serving until 1910.

Merewether was Governor of Sierra Leone from 1910 to 1916, and Governor of the Leeward Islands from 1916 to 1921. He died on 28 December 1938.

Family

Merewether was married to Honoria Clementina Mary Braddell (d. 9 January 1938).
