Eggology, Inc. is an American food company established in 1993 and based in Canoga Park, California that specializes in the wholesale and retail marketing of liquid organic and conventional egg whites.[2][4] In addition to its core egg white product, the company has diversified into baked goods and pet food.[5]

Products

The company's early focus was on liquid egg whites, still produced, for high-protein drinks for bodybuilders.[6] Product lines include yolkless baked goods, "Cool Cravings" ice cream, and "Norton's Naturals," organic pet food.[6] Eggology's products are sold to food service providers and to retailers throughout the United States.[6]

Distinguishing features and competitive position

The time to market[7] of Eggology's products has been a distinguishing factor for the company. In the case of the egg white products, they are shipped within hours of the eggs initially being laid, with no storage period before processing.[8] The safety of the main egg white product has also been a factor in increasing sales. A USDA inspector retains an office on the Eggology premises and the company's inspection routine significantly exceeds government mandates.[1]

Its 2001 revenue was US$1.6 million,[4] with a 2002 government report noting the two major suppliers in the organic egg products market as Primera Foods and Organic Valley, without mentioning Eggology.[9] By 2006, however, an ice cream industry report refers to Eggology as "the leading all natural egg white company",[5] with the company revenue for 2007 having risen more than five times from its 2001 revenue.[1]

Humane Practices

Eggology has received the "Certified Humane Raised and Handled" designation from Humane Farm Animal Care, [10] a Virginia-based animal welfare auditing organization.[11] Among the criteria that must be met in order to earn certification are that animals be allowed to "engage in their natural behaviors," that they be raised with "sufficient space, shelter, and gentle handling" to minimize stress, and that their diet be free of added antibiotics or hormones.[12]
