National roads in Poland |
Expressway S12 or express road S12 (in Polish droga ekspresowa S12) is a major road in Poland which has been planned to run from Piotrków Trybunalski, through Radom, Lublin and Chełm, to the border crossing with Ukraine at Dorohusk. The completed road should be about 315 km (196 mi) long. As of late 2013 only a few short disconnected sections exist:
- bypass of Opoczno, signed as National Road 12
- the first stage Puławy bypass (12.7 km (7.9 mi)) with the John Paul II bridge (51°26′10″N 21°54′32″E / 51.436°N 21.909°E). It was opened in 2008 and is signed as National Road 12.
- Near Lublin S12 overlaps with S17 forming that city's bypass road.
- Kurów West - Lublin Felin - 70 km long, opened in May, 2013, September and October, 2014 respectively
- Lublin Felin – Piaski West - 13,8 km built by upgrading existing dual carriageway road, opened as expressway in July, 2013.
- Piaski West - Piaski East (bypass of Piaski) - 4.2 km bypass built in 2004.
The remaining 30.7 km of Lublin bypass was fully completed in 2014.
Next to be constructed will be the 2nd stage of Puławy bypass, 11,8 km long.[1] The contractors are currently being selected, and work is likely to be completed in 2017 or 2018. The contract will also involve upgrades to the first stage of the bypass, so it can be signed as an expressway. When this work is finished, S12 will run continuously from Puławy to Piaski.
A document outlining the future development of transport infrastructure issued by the Polish government in August, 2014 projects that the road will be fully completed in 2023.[2]
