FPB-TV is an American public access cable television channel that serves the cable television customers of its owner and operator, the Frankfort Plant Board. It is headquartered in the Commonwealth of Kentucky's state capital city of Frankfort. It is seen on FPB cable channels 10 (in SD) and 510 (in HD). FPB-TV's studio facilities are located at 306 Hickory Drive in Frankfort.
Programming
The channel's programming includes Frankfort and Franklin County local government programming (the Frankfort City Commission and the Franklin County Fiscal Court), local high-school sports (e.g. basketball, football, soccer, volleyball), as well as football and basketball games involving the sports programs of Kentucky State University, who compete in the NCAA Division II's Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.[2][3] It also places heavy focus on local community events and the history of the city itself, including airing the speaking program from three of the city's civic clubs and an annual summer concert series taking place on the lawn of the Old State Capitol. Among its sizable programming archive includes various pageants from the Franklin County Fair and walking tours conducted by local Frankfort personalities and members of the city's department on parks, recreation and historic sites. FPB-TV also produces and airs each of the city's local high school's commencement ceremonies in early June.
FPB-TV also carries local political programming during election years, inviting candidates running for local and statewide offices to appear on a program entitled Meet the Candidates, where each candidate is given a short interview so that community members may evaluate their fitness for office. FPB-TV's election coverage culminates in a live, 45-60 minute election night special at the Franklin County Clerk's Office.[4] As election results for city and county-wide races are shown, FPB-TV interviews candidates for city and county positions as well as the Franklin County Clerk.
Bulletin board
When not airing local programming, the channel airs a bulletin board of upcoming community events, announcements and organization meetings. Next to these announcements are two information panes showing FPB hours, phone numbers for various FPB departments and other company-related services. Also included is a simple weather widget containing current conditions and short-term forecasts.
Emergency Alert System
FPB-TV's SD channel 10 is used as the system-wide Emergency Alert System channel for FPB cable. When the EAS is activated, cable boxes are automatically tuned to channel 10. DTA and QAM tuner users, however, are not automatically switched and SD viewers only see a red scrolling bar on the screen with the EAS audio interrupting the program.
