Faryal Talpur, (Urdu: فریال تالپور ) is a politician in Sindh, Pakistan. Faryal Talpur is the sister of Asif Zardari, the former President of Pakistan, the daughter of Hakim Ali Zardari and sister-in-law of Benazir Bhutto.

Political career

Talpur participated in the Pakistani presidential election, 2007 from the platform of Pakistan Peoples Party[1] and is a Member of Pakistan's National Assembly.[2] Prior to being elected to the National Assembly, Talpur was the District Nazim for Nawabshah.[3] [4]

District Mayor Nawabshah (Zila Nazim)

She was twice elected as the district mayor of Nawabshah from 2001-2005 and again for the second tenure from 2005 to 2009.But the second time she could not complete her tenure and resigned from the post of District Nazima in 2008.

Union Counselor NA- 207 Larkana (UC Nazim)

When she was given the Electoral Ticket to contest General By-election from the vacant seat of assassinated Chairperson Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto from Larkana constituency NA-207. She won this seat uncontested and was elected as the Member National Assembly. In May 11th, 2013 General election were held. And again the seat was won by Ms. Faryal Talpur of the PPP.

Member National Assembly

She became a member of National Assembly in 2008 and was in office till 2013 she again won her seat 2013 and is office till date.

Personal life

Talpur is the sister of Asif Zardari, the former President of Pakistan, the daughter of Hakim Ali Zardari and sister-in-law of Benazir Bhutto. In August 2009, Talpur and her husband Munawar Talpur were appointed custodians of Benazir Bhutto's property. This designation includes the guardianship of Bhutto's children.[7]

According to a wikileaks diplomatic cables leak in November 2010, fearing attempts on his life, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari told ambassador Anne W. Patterson that in the event he was assassinated, he had instructed his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari(who, along with Zardari, is the co-Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party) to appoint his sister Faryal Talpur as President[8]
