First Words

First Words is a Canadian hip hop group, consisting of Halifax beatmaker Jorun, DJ STV and emcees Sean One & Above. Their pre-release peaked at #1 on the top 30 and hip hop charts of Fredericton, New Brunswick's CHSR, which landed them at #13 on earshot's national hip hop charts in December, 2004. In addition, their song "Down With Putting Raps Down" was featured on the National Campus and Community Radio Association's Dig Your Roots hip hop compilation album in 2004.

In 2004 First Words had released a 16 track self-titled album[1] of new material to critical acclaim.[2] The album was Deadbeats Entertainment's first release, kicking off the label's focus on local music. Deadbeats has since released the "Jorun's Way/Sean One's Way" 7", with 2 tracks per side (side one with Jorun and side two with Sean One) it also featured the track "no artificials" which was featured on a rawkus/keepitclassic compilation of underground hiphop. Since then sean one has released a compilation entitled "full of it" which charted at #1 in Canada. Jorun also released a compilation entitled "joruns way" which got nationwide attention and features artists like Classified, spesh k, Ghettosocks and more. A new First Words EP only available on vinyl has been released in August 2007 entitled "the anti-mixtape movement". The vinyl features 4 tracks from their LP entitled "Cheaters" released in 2008.
