Go Skate is an American-based startup that connects students with pre-screened skateboard instructors locally. The company is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. It has teachers operating in over 2,800 cities in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom.[1]

History

In 2008, Go Skate founder, Rob Dunfey, was considering offering skateboarding lessons as a side business.[2] When he developed the website, requests for lessons started coming in throughout the United States.[3] Seeing the opportunity, Dunfey quickly started connecting requests to his friends.[4] A screening and training system was put in place, and lessons started being fulfilled by hundreds of instructors.[5] By 2011, Go Skate began offering skateboard lesson gift cards through a partnership in Rite Aid, Sams Club, and Walgreens.[6] The following year, the company expanded into Canada using SkateboardLessons.ca and subsequently into Great Britain.[7][8]

In 2012, Go Skate developed an online course, Trick Tutor, which teaches skateboarding through videos and interactive activities. Instructor, Mark Williams, made the news for skateboarding 8,000 miles across United States for ovarian cancer.[9]

Founder/CEO

At the age of 16, Rob Dunfey was a sponsored and competitive skateboarder. He began to pursue is passion of being a professional skateboarder. Dunfey pursued a business degree at Loyola Marymount University and dropped out to pursue his passion of building a business.[10]
